I’m excited to announce a fun workshop – probably like no other you have ever been to! This is an IEEE and ShiftKey sponsored workshop that will explore using materials in an alternative way.

You MUST register for the event via Brightspace [link to follow] in order to gain entry.

🍁Location: Lab 134, Goldberg Computer Science Building, Dalhousie University [Nova Scotia, Canada]

Time: 2:30 – 5:30

Join us! No experience necessary – this is a fun event for all ages*

This event isn’t just about creativity—it’s about rethinking waste and pushing the boundaries of wearable technology. Bubble wrap is often discarded after a single use, but we’re transforming it into functional fabric with electronics and conductive materials to create interactive designs. It’s an opportunity to learnexperiment, and make sustainability fun while exploring the intersection of fashion, tech, and environmental responsibility.

Attending events like this means championing innovation while tackling real-world problems like waste management and sustainable materials. Whether you’re into electronics, DIY projects, fashion, or eco-conscious design, this is your chance to be part of a movement that proves recycling can be creative, stylish, and cutting-edge. Let’s electrify sustainability together!

*kids under 12 will need parental supervision

Additional Information: All tools needed will be provided, there will be some sewing optional, and we are looking into providing an electronics pack for the first 10 registered participants (packs can be purchased for a discounted price, at the event as an extra option, but it is not needed to participate fully with the activity). Maximum attendance is 25 people.

This workshop was inspired from work with Andrew Quitmeyer during a workshop in Scotland.
